Suspension Bridges Represent a New Advancement in Modern Bridge Engineering
As part of the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the University of Transport and Communications (held on January 15, 2025), Minh Duc Group showcased and introduced several of its technological solutions. Among these advanced technologies, the suspension bridge model attracted significant attention from businesses operating in the fields of construction and science and technology.
Sharing insights on the suspension bridge model and the technological solutions applied in the design and operation of this type of bridge, Mr Nguyen Van Huy, Technical Director of Minh Duc Group, stated that suspension bridges are a type of bridge structure designed for large and super-large bridges, featuring main spans ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 meters. The development and construction of such long-span bridge structures require the application of numerous advanced technologies.
For Minh Duc Group’s suspension bridge system, the primary load-bearing components consist of the tower pylons and the main cables, which are responsible for supporting the entire structural load and transferring it to the towers and anchorages. The main cables are composed of multiple cable bundles and parallel wire strands, treated with multi-layer surface coatings to minimize corrosion as much as possible.
The parallel wire strands are compacted within a unified cross-sectional system and operate simultaneously with the large cable bundles. In addition, high-capacity load-transfer components are required. The saddle structures are cast in steel and are carefully modeled and engineered to enable the bridge span to change direction, redirect forces, and operate smoothly and efficiently.
“Minh Duc Group collaborates with design and construction companies on various project components, ensuring advanced engineering standards and high practical applicability.
To support the construction process, the company utilizes specialized machinery and accompanying technological solutions to handle the lifting of cable bundles with diameters of up to one meter to elevated positions. These large-diameter cable bundles feature cores made entirely of high-strength steel and are treated using advanced installation, suspension, and protective bundling technologies.
The main cable bundles can extend up to 2,000–3,000 meters along the length of the bridge. Specialized equipment travels along the cable system to wrap the cables, apply protective coatings, compress them tightly, and add an additional protective layer.
Mr Nguyen Van Huy further shared that major cities tend to develop landmark bridge projects as iconic architectural highlights. Bridges built in later periods are often more aesthetically impressive and technologically advanced than earlier ones. For example, Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi, being a more recently constructed bridge, features a particularly modern and elegant design.
When referring to Golden Gate Bridge — the world-famous suspension bridge in Northern California — professionals in the construction industry are all familiar with it, and many companies aspire to develop the technologies required to design and build such iconic structures.
"With modern engineering techniques and advanced technologies, Minh Duc Group is fully capable of delivering a landmark engineering project comparable to the Golden Gate Bridge." affirmed Mr Nguyen Van Huy.
Mr Nguyen Van Huy stated that in 2024, Minh Duc Group successfully completed a cable-stayed bridge featuring the symbolic image of two cranes in Vinh Phuc, and that the bridge is currently operating efficiently. According to him, suspension bridge technology marks a new milestone, bringing significant changes not only in engineering and construction technology but also in the mindset of embracing innovative technological solutions. Looking ahead, the company plans to collaborate with various partners to design and construct several suspension bridge projects.

Expanding Global Integration through a Highly Skilled Engineering and Technology Workforce.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Minh Duc Group, the company will place greater emphasis on strengthening its collaboration with the University of Transport and Communications in the coming years. Looking ahead, Minh Duc plans to expand its export activities to Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries, and may therefore cooperate with universities specializing in economics as well as institutions in other relevant fields.
According to Mr Nghia, although the “Triple Helix” model has introduced many positive policies, its implementation must be aligned with the practical operations of each enterprise. He emphasized that Minh Duc Group is committed to fulfilling its social responsibility by contributing to educational and developmental initiatives, enabling students to gain practical exposure and integrate it with the theoretical knowledge acquired at university for more comprehensive growth.
Currently, Minh Duc Group is focusing on developing a high-quality workforce, advancing high-tech capabilities, and expanding into export markets. The company is actively promoting the export of agricultural products and stone materials to the Middle East and Eastern Europe markets. In the long term, Minh Duc aims to build a comprehensive ecosystem in manufacturing, construction, and engineering in order to create sustainable value for society as well as meaningful opportunities for its workforce.
Founded in 2010, Minh Duc Group has progressively strengthened its expertise and mastered the “materials – engineering – construction” value chain within the transportation infrastructure sector, spanning both civil and industrial projects. To date, Minh Duc has successfully completed more than 3,000 projects both domestically and internationally, establishing a strong reputation in international markets such as Cambodia and Saudi Arabia, while gradually expanding its presence into France and the broader Europe market. A reporter from Automation Today Magazine conducted a brief interview with Trần Đại Nghĩa, Chief Executive Officer of Minh Duc Group, regarding the application of science and technology, digital transformation, and investment in human resources as part of the company’s strategy for international integration, market expansion, construction and engineering operations, and technology transfer abroad. - Reporter: “In the context of international integration and increasing global competition, how have you and the leadership of Minh Duc Group guided the company to both establish a strong brand presence in Vietnam’s construction industry and expand internationally through technology transfer and overseas operations?” - Mr Tran Dai Nghia: Minh Duc Group’s journey to success over the past 15 years has not been easy. The company has consistently focused on investing in people, technology, and digital transformation. Between 2020 and 2021, Minh Đức Group began its digital transformation journey, which was an extremely challenging process.
