The advantages and disadvantages of the prefabricated main cable method (PPWS) and the in-situ cable threading method. Why is the prefabricated method more commonly used ?

This question opened the door to an in-depth discussion, as experts analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of the two main cable construction methods for suspension cable bridges.

In large-span cable-stayed bridge projects with high technical requirements such as the May Chai Bridge, expansion joints are an indispensable element for protecting the structure and maintaining its stability over time. They provide a solution that allows the structure to withstand the effects of temperature changes, loads, and material expansion. However, if expansion joints are not installed to proper technical standards, the bridge may not only deliver an uneven driving experience but also face potential risks such as cracking, damage, and other safety issues, all of which can reduce the structure’s service life.
