Minh Duc EC Maintains Steady Progress on Slope Stabilization Works at Sofitel Sapa Hotel & Residences (Sa Pa)
At the Sofitel Sapa Hotel & Residences project, part of the approximately 83-hectare Muong Hoa International Resort Complex developed by Alphanam, Minh Duc EC is currently carrying out slope stabilization works at Blocks 1 & 2. The works are being undertaken under challenging conditions, including steep terrain, limited construction space, and stringent requirements for maintaining slope stability throughout the construction process.
The slope stabilization solution is being implemented through an integrated approach, combining prestressed ground anchors, soil nails, internal slope drainage systems, reinforced concrete beam grids, and surface protection measures. The integration of these techniques enables reinforcement of the soil mass from within, control of water-related impacts, and stabilization of the slope surface.

For the prestressed ground anchor system, setting out, borehole drilling, tendon installation, grouting, and stressing operations are carried out in accordance with the prescribed technical sequence. Throughout construction, key parameters such as anchor positioning, drilling angle, borehole depth, grouting quality, and anchor stressing force are carefully controlled in compliance with design requirements to ensure the proper performance of the anchor system upon completion.

In parallel, the D32 soil nail system is being installed in designated areas in accordance with the approved design. Following borehole drilling and steel bar installation, grouting is carried out to establish a bond between the steel reinforcement and the surrounding soil, thereby enhancing the shear resistance and limiting displacement of the slope mass.
Another critical component is the internal slope drainage system. Given Sa Pa’s heavy rainfall, high humidity, and rapidly changing weather conditions, water infiltration can directly affect the stress conditions and stability of the slope. Therefore, the drainage system is installed alongside the reinforcement elements to collect and discharge seepage water, helping to prevent the buildup of pore water pressure within the soil mass.

Monitoring Drilling Position and Angle During Slope Stabilization Works in Sa Pa
Following the completion of the internal reinforcement elements, Minh Duc EC continues with the construction of reinforced concrete beam grids, reinforcement mesh, and shotcrete on the slope surface. These components serve to integrate the reinforcement system, protect the slope surface, mitigate erosion, and complete the slope stabilization structure in accordance with design requirements.
One of the project's major challenges lies in construction site organization. The steep terrain, confined working space, and frequent rainfall and fog in Sa Pa directly affect slope accessibility, material transportation, equipment positioning, and workforce deployment. To maintain construction progress, Minh Duc EC is carrying out works simultaneously across multiple areas, allocating manpower and coordinating construction sequences according to the actual conditions of each section.
Technical quality control and safety management are maintained throughout all construction stages, from surveying, drilling, installation, grouting, and anchor stressing to the construction of surface protection structures. Inspection and acceptance procedures are conducted at each stage to ensure consistency between the approved design documentation and actual on-site execution.
As of early October 2026, construction works at Blocks 1 & 2 have entered an intensive phase, with multiple areas being developed in parallel. Under the overall project schedule, slope stabilization works in this area are planned to take place from late June through late November 2026. Minh Duc EC is currently concentrating its resources on maintaining steady construction progress and preparing for the final completion works in accordance with the project schedule.

Overview of the Slope Stabilization Area at Sofitel Sapa Hotel & Residences
Previously, Minh Duc EC completed the slope stabilization works at Blocks 8 & 9. Construction activities in these blocks provided valuable field data on the topographical, geological, and weather conditions, as well as construction site organization in the Muong Hoa area. These practical insights have helped optimize construction methods and strengthen quality control during the ongoing works at Blocks 1 & 2.
The coordinated execution of borehole drilling, soil nail and ground anchor installation, grouting, anchor stressing, drainage system installation, and surface protection works highlights the stringent requirements for integrating multiple components into a comprehensive slope stabilization system. At Sofitel Sapa Hotel & Residences, construction progress, technical quality, and safety continue to be closely monitored and controlled throughout the implementation process, with the objective of ensuring the long-term stability of the Blocks 1 & 2 area.
