ANCHOR DRILLING FOR LANDSLIDE PREVENTION AND WEAK SOIL STABILIZATION
GROUND ANCHOR DRILLING FOR WEAK SOIL STABILIZATION AND LANDSLIDE PREVENTION
Ground anchor drilling is a long-established construction method, first invented in Europe and implemented for the first time in the 1930s. It has since been widely used from the 1970s onwards, thanks to its outstanding advantages over traditional methods, such as versatility across various types of projects, cost-effectiveness, and fast construction progress.

Anchor drilling is a long-established construction method, first invented in Europe and executed for the first time in the 1930s. * Applications of the Anchor Method:
In Vietnam, anchor drilling is primarily used to reinforce and stabilize diaphragm walls in the foundation construction of civil structures such as houses, apartment buildings, and office complexes; as well as to stabilize slopes and embankments in the construction of roads, bridges, tunnels, and other infrastructure works.
In addition, anchor drilling has a wide range of applications such as:
- Anchoring retaining walls during deep excavation and foundation works
- Slope stabilization
- Stabilizing or enhancing the load-bearing capacity of supporting structures such as masonry and retaining walls.
- Resisting uplift pressure from soil and groundwater acting on structures.
- Stabilizing structures against seismic forces.
- Reinforcing and stabilizing tunnel boundaries.
- Stabilizing tower structures such as television towers, power transmission towers, etc.
- Stabilizing bridge piers and cable-stayed structures.
* Anchor Structure:
It consists of three main components: the anchor head, the anchor tendon, and the anchor bond zone.

*Ground Anchor Construction Procedure:
The anchor drilling process consists of five main steps:
- Drilling: Create a borehole with a diameter of 101–225 mm at a specified angle.
- Grouting: Insert the casing into the borehole and inject grout under pressure.
- Anchor Installation: Place the prepared anchor into the borehole.
- Anchor Tensioning: Install the anchor bearing plate and nut, then tension the anchor to fix it in place.
- Anchor Head Treatment: Attach the anchor head cap to complete the installation and provide corrosion protection.
In anchor construction procedures, borehole drilling is a critical step to ensure that the anchors carry the designed loads accurately, prevent slip layers, and stabilize the structure. Currently, both in Vietnam and internationally, Vietnam Stay Structurers Construction Joint Stock Company (SSC) applies advanced technology using hydraulic anchor drilling machines. This method offers long-term cost savings, enhanced safety, flexibility, and reduced construction time. Contact Minh Duc Group today to learn more about ground anchor drilling.
